Description
The Nest is a house dating from around 1700, constructed of coursed limestone rubble with some ashlar dressings. It features a concrete plain-tile roof and rebuilt rubble gable stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan with a service range and stands two storeys high plus attics. The front has two windows, with a pair of tall windows on the first floor. The ground floor includes a 12-pane sash window, a blocked doorway, and a 20th-century porch positioned at the extreme left. There are two openings that retain ashlar flat arches. A rear wing extends from the left, while a lower service range stretches to the right. The steep-pitched roof has stacks on the right and at the rear gable. The rear of the main range and the rear wing feature additional tall windows, all with ashlar flat arches, which likely once contained cross windows. Inside, there is a stop-chamfered spine beam and a large open fireplace with a cambered stop-chamfered bressumer. The cellar bears a scratched date of 1795.
