Description
Knollbury is a house that was formerly subdivided, dating from the 17th century, early 18th century, and early 19th century. It is constructed from part-coursed limestone rubble with some ashlar dressings, and features concrete plain-tile and Welsh-slate roofs with stone stacks. The building consists of a single unit that has been extended by two additional units plus a further range. It stands two storeys tall and has a symmetrical two-window front from the 19th century range, which includes ashlar quoins and flat arches with projecting keyblocks. This front features 16-pane sash windows and a central door with an overlight, topped by a shallow-pitched slate roof with gable stacks. The 18th century range, which returns from the right, has a steep tiled roof with a central stack and includes irregular casements along with a six-panel door. The rear unit has a chimney gable to the right and a hip to the left, featuring enlarged casements. Inside, the rear unit contains a spiral cellar stair and traces of upper flights next to a large chimneybreast. The 18th century range has a stop-chamfered spine beam and a fine fireplace with a moulded and carved mantel.
