Description

Rose Cottage and Millbrook are two houses, likely dating from the early to mid-18th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with some squared dressings, and have a Welsh-slate roof with rubble stacks. The houses were probably built around a central stair plan, forming a single range. The house to the right, Millbrook, is the earlier of the two and has a symmetrical three-window front. It features 19th-century sash windows, with twelve panes at the first floor and margin lights at the ground floor. Rose Cottage is similar in design but lacks symmetry. Both houses have doorways in the middle bay, flat arches over all openings, and steep-pitched roofs with two gabled roof dormers. The interiors were not inspected. The building’s group value stems from its contribution to the character of the Brookend area.
