Description
The Tithe Barn, located approximately 400 meters southeast of Middle Brookend Farmhouse, is a barn dating from the late 18th century with some minor later alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame with corrugated-iron cladding at the apexes of the gable ends, an asbestos sheet roof on the southwest side, and stone slates on the northeast. The barn has a gabled cart entrance with double doors in the third bay on the southwest side, along with an opposing entrance at the rear. There are slightly later lean-to shelters on either side of the cart entrance.
Inside, the framing is visible, consisting of close-set vertical posts with long straight tension braces and a staggered middle rail. Above, there is lathe and plaster cladding, while the lower part is weatherboarded. The roof is supported by staggered double butt-purlins in five bays, featuring queen-strut trusses and long thin windbraces, along with curved braces connecting the wall posts to the tie beams. Note that Middle Brookend Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
