CHASTLETON SP23SW 1/12 Tithe barn approx. 400m SE of Middle Brookend Farmhouse

Shown on 0.S. map as Tithe Barn. Barn. Late C18 with minor later alterations. Weatherboarded timber frame with corrugated-iron cladding to apexes of gable ends; asbestos sheet roof to south-west side, stone slates to north east. Gabled cart entrance with double doors in third bay to south-west side with opposing entrance to rear; slightly later lean-to shelters to either side of cart entrance. Interior. Framing visible: close-set vertical posts with long straight tension braces and staggered middle rail; lathe and plaster cladding above, weatherboarding below. Staggered double butt-purlin roof in 5 bays with queen-strut trusses and long thin windbraces; curved braces from wall posts to tie beams. Middle Brookend Farmhouse is not included in this list.
