SPELSBURY DITCHLEY PARK SP32SE 8/172 The Little Temple approx. 130m SW of Ditchley House

Garden temple. Mid/late C18 for the Earls of Litchfield, re-sited c.1935 by Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe for Ronald and Nancy Tree. Limestone. Rectangular summerhouse, with a canted Venetian window in the rear wall, has an C18 stone doorway, with a moulded architrave and entablature with pulvinated frieze, flanked by oval plaster reliefs. Stone tetrastyle Tuscan portico has a triangular pediment and ball finials. Interior: a marble tablet records the temple restoration in memory of R.L. Tree (1897-1976). (Ditchley Park is included in the English Heritage Historic Gardens Register at Grade II*)
