Description
Court Farmhouse is a late 17th century farmhouse that was formerly attached to Shipton Court and altered in the early 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with a rendered front, topped by a slate roof featuring coped verges. There is a saddlestone to the left and paired ashlar chimneys with a common cornice on the right, along with a stunted stack to the left of center. The building has a through-passage plan, and the original entrance may have been located in the gabled wing to the northeast. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a hipped dormer to the right of center. The ground floor features three windows with glazing bar sashes that retain ovolo moulded jambs. A gabled porch with an elliptical archway includes a doorway with rounded wooden spandrels. There is a 3-light ovolo mullioned window in the west gable. An L-plan extension extends to the northwest from a large chimney with square stacks, along with further irregular extensions to the rear. Inside, the main room to the east of the cross-passage has deep chamfered beams, including both spine and cornice beams. There is a newel stair in the northwest corner and a wide fireplace with stone jambs and an elliptical-headed lintel, with a salt cupboard above.
