Description
SHIPTON-UNDER-WYCHWOOD MAWLES LANE SP 2617-2717 Court Farmhouse 7/83 28.4.86 II GV Farmhouse, formerly attached to Shipton Court. Late C17 altered early C19. Rubble, front rendered (probably from the outset), slate roof with coped verges, saddlestone to left, paired ashlar chimneys with common cornice to right, stunted stack to left of centre. Through-passage plan. Original entrance may have been in gabled wing to north-east. Two storeys and attic, hipped dormer to right of centre. Three windows, glazing bar sashes on ground floor retaining ovolo moulded jambs. Gabled porch with elliptical archway, dokorway with rounded wooden spandrels let in. 3-light ovolo mullioned window in west gable. L-plan extension to north-west extending from large chimney with square stacks; further irregular extensions to rear. Interior: deep chamfered beams in main room to east of cross-passage (both spine and cornice beams), newel stair in north-west corner, wide fireplace with stone jambs and elliptical-headed lintel (salt cupboard above).
