Description

SHIPTON-UNDER-WYCHWOOD HIGH STREET SP 2617-2717 (east side) 7/63 Gates, Gatepiers and Flanking Wall at West - Entrance to Shipton Court GV II Gates, gatepiers and flanking walls. Circa 1903, perhaps re-incorporating C18 material. Ashlar walls and piers, wrought-iron railings and gates. C18 style. The low ashlar wall with coping broken forward at regular intervals over wall buttresses links the 2 sets of stables (qv) and adds to the symmetrical layout of Shipton Court (qv). Tall ashlar gatepiers with pilasters, moulded cornice and ball finials, inner corners chamfered. Large wrought-iron gates with good quality scroll-work and leaves in upper parts, hinge panels enriched; flanking pedestrian gates with over- throws in similar style.
