Description
The stone boundary wall from Ayton to the north-east corner of Shipton Court Gardens is a Grade II listed structure located on the east side of High Street in Shipton-under-Wychwood. Designed by Perkins and Bulmer, the wall dates from around 1903 to 1906, although the north-west part of the wall likely dates back to the 18th century, as indicated by its brick lining. The wall is tall, constructed primarily of rubble with coursed stone and some snecked patches, standing approximately 12 to 15 feet high. It features a ramp down to a late 20th-century breach located roughly in the center and is angled at this point. The wall includes ashlar gatepiers on the return to the east, topped with ball finials, and is complemented by cast- and wrought-iron gates that display a fine 18th-century design.
