Description

SHIPTON-UNDER-WYCHWOOD HIGH STREET SP 2617-2717 (west side) 7/78 Gates, Gatepiers and Entrance Quadrants - opposite Shipton Court II GV Gates, gatepiers and entrance quadrants. Circa 1903-06, probably part of Perkins and Bulmer's work for Mr Pepper. Coursed rubble with coping ramped up to inner piers. Two sets of pilastered gatepiers, the outer ones lower, both with cornices and ball finials, inner ones with wave moulding in rebated corner. Cast- and wrought-iron gates with arrowhead dog rails, enriched hinge panels and further ramped panels up to the gatepiers. Opposite the excellent gates (qv) to Shipton Court (qv).
