Description
Hope Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is built with a rendered facade that appears as ashlar, and has a double-roman tile roof with coped verges and rendered end stacks. The farmhouse has a symmetrical facade arranged in an L-shape. The main part of the house is two storeys and an attic, with three bays. It has three-light stone mullioned windows, except for the centre window on the first floor, which has two lights. A continuous string course runs above the ground floor openings. The central doorway has a chamfered stone surround, and contains a late 19th-century five-panelled door with the top two panels glazed. There is a 20th-century open concrete gabled porch. A gabled wing extends at a right angle to the left side, with no windows visible on its frontage. To the rear, there are three two-light wooden mullioned windows, with one in a small attic gable. The interior features a broad fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel in the right-hand ground floor room, and a similar fireplace in the wing. Two winder staircases are present, one constructed of rubble and the other of wood. A fireplace in the left-hand room on the first floor has a bolection moulded stone surround with a cornice shelf.
