Description

Knapps Farm House is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating to the 17th and early 18th centuries, constructed in three phases. It is built of coursed rubble limestone with semi-dressed quoins. The left section has a thatched roof, half-hipped at the left end, whilst the two right bays have a stone slate roof. Brick chimneys are located to the right of the thatched part and centrally within the slated section. The house is one and a half to two storeys high. The thatched section to the left comprises three bays, the right bays closely set together, and the left bay particularly wide. It features wooden casement windows with horizontal glazing bars; a three-light window to the left bay, and single- and two-light windows to the right. Lower windows have wooden lintels, while upper windows are set into the thatch at eaves level. There are traces of a blocked doorway to the left of the right-hand window. The left gable end retains an original first-floor window, now boarded up, with three lights and ovolo-moulded wooden mullions. The stone-slated section to the right has two bays of three-light wooden casement windows with horizontal glazing bars and wooden lintels. The upper lintels have a double ovolo moulding ornamented with small crescent-shaped gouges. To the left of this section is a cross passage with a flush-panelled, top-lit door and a wooden lintel. Simple 19th-century iron railings with moulded finials and a matching gate are attached to the front.
