Description
Pear Tree Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, which was refurbished in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a stone slate roof, and has brick chimneys, with the one on the left rebuilt in the 20th century. The house has a central through-passage plan and is one and a half storeys high, with two bays, each having a gable facing the front. The windows are wooden casements with horizontal glazing bars and wooden lintels, most of which were renewed in the 20th century. The ground floor has a 4-light casement, which was formerly a shop window, to the left, a 3-light casement to the right, and a 2-light window within a blocked doorway to the right of centre. There are 2-light casements in the gables. A 20th-century top-lit door with a fanlight and a high wooden lintel is located to the left of centre. A Sun Fire Insurance plaque is visible on the front. A later lean-to has been added to the rear. The interior reveals altered fireplaces, later ceiling beams, and a double purlin roof, with the upper purlins renewed.
