Description
No. 1 Brown's Lane is a house, probably built in the mid-18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof. The building has a single-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic, featuring one range of windows. There are two steps leading up to a 4-panelled 19th-century door located to the right, which is set beneath a heavy stop-chamfered lintel. To the left of the door, there is a sash window with glazing bars, and a similar window is found in the centre of the first floor, also under a stop-chamfered lintel. The right gable has a 20th-century attic window, and there is a stack on the left side. This small building is situated opposite Heathfield Cottage and is prominently located on the approach to the Playing Close.
