Description

The fountain, built in 1897 by John Kibble, is designed in the Jacobethan style and features an octagonal plan constructed of ashlar. It stands on a plinth supported by round half columns, which hold up an arcade of rounded arches with moulded imposts and keyblocks. The entablature beneath the moulded cornice includes an inscription and the initials "VR," with circles in pediments, one of which is topped by crowns. At the center, a cupola shaped like a crown is topped with a ball finial. The inscription notes that the fountain was presented by Harvey du Cros of Cornbury Park to commemorate Queen Victoria's visit in 1886, the introduction of piped water in the town in 1896, and the Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
