Description
This dovecote, located about 7 yards north-east of Court Cottage in Shipton-under-Wychwood, is likely from the early 17th century. It is constructed of rubble with a Cotswold stone roof and has undergone alterations and restoration. The building is two-and-a-half storeys tall with a square plan and a cross-gabled design, but it does not have a cupola. There is a string course above the ground floor and a band above the first floor, with coped verges featuring ball finials. The first floor includes 20th-century windows, notably a 3-light mullion window that replaces an earlier one, disrupting the line of the string course. Additionally, there is an elliptical-headed doorway on the first floor, accessed by 20th-century stairs, and a garage on the ground floor. The east and north sides maintain a more traditional appearance. Court Cottage is not included in this listing.
