Description

This barn, located approximately 50 meters north of Friars Court, dates from the mid-18th century to the late 18th century, with the roof of the left part rebuilt in the late 19th century. It is constructed from uncoursed limestone rubble and features a half-hipped stone slate roof. The barn has an L-plan layout with a gabled range at right angles to the rear on the right side. The main range consists of two parts from different periods.

The left part includes a wide entrance with a lean-to hood in the third bay from the left, and an opposing cart entrance at the rear with double doors. There are ramped buttresses to the left of the entrance and at the right corner, along with later lean-tos on either side of the rear cart entrance. The right part, which is slightly set back, has a wide entrance with a lean-to hood in the second bay from the left, an infilled doorway with a wood lintel to the left, and an opposing gabled cart entrance at the rear with double doors and chequered brick side walls. Narrow rectangular air vents are present throughout.

Inside, the left part features a late 19th-century king-post roof spanning four bays, while the right part has a mid-18th-century double-purlin collar and tie beam roof in five bays, with a similar collar and tie beam roof in four bays in the rear range. The barn is included for its group value.
