Description

The Old Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-to-late 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 20th centuries, and an early 18th-century rear wing. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with gabled stone slate roofs, and has stone ridge and end stacks. Originally a two-unit plan with a right-hand cross wing, the house was later extended to form a U-plan with rear wings. The two-storey main house has a four-window range, incorporating the gable end of the cross wing. Timber lintels are above 20th-century windows. A late 17th-century rear wing is located to the left, built of similar materials, with a stone end stack and having one storey and an attic, with two gabled dormers to the left. To the right is an early-to-mid 18th-century rear wing, also of similar materials and two storeys, with a hipped roof. Internally, there is an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered wood bressumer to the right, and stop-chamfered beams. A late 18th-century dog-leg staircase is also present. The cross wing's roof features a mid-to-late 16th-century two-bay arch-braced collar-truss roof.
