Description
Rose Cottage is a house, now divided into two dwellings, dated 1661, with an extension to the left from the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof, with late 18th-century brick stacks on the left and a 17th-century stone stack on the right. The building has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high, with a three-window range.
On the right side, there is a taller 17th-century block with a timber lintel over a 19th-century plank door, while the left side has an 18th-century plank door. The windows are 19th-century two-light casements, also with timber lintels. At the rear, there is a 17th-century outshut that contains single-light windows set in moulded and chamfered wood surrounds, which houses the staircase. To the right, there is an 18th-century outshut.
Inside, the 17th-century range features a stop-chamfered beam and joists, along with a stone-flagged floor. A 17th-century doorway has a four-centred arched head, and there is a plaster date of 1661 set in bas-relief above an altered fireplace. Winder stairs lead to the rear.
