Description
Shambles is a farmhouse, now a house, located in Swerford East End. It probably dates from the late 17th century and was re-roofed in the 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels and features a Welsh-slate roof with brick stacks. It has a three-unit plan and two storeys plus an attic.
The front of the house has three windows and a central doorway, which is topped by a gabled 19th-century canopy. On either side of the doorway are three-light casements, while the first floor has three two-light casements and there are three gabled roof dormers in the attic. All windows have 20th-century casements. The stacks are located to the left of the centre on the right gable.
Inside, there is a large inglenook fireplace with an ovolo-moulded wooden bressumer, and the beams and some joists feature stop chamfers.
