Description
The bee boles, or dog-kennels, located approximately 20 meters to the southwest of number 37 in Great Tew, are likely from the early 19th century. They are constructed from marl stone ashlar and oak, with a Stonesfield-slate roof. The structure consists of a single range with a stone base, and the stone end walls feature small gables with moulded drips. The outer angles of the gable walls are roughly chamfered and have decorative elements that are now missing. The wooden front measures approximately 1 meter high and 3 meters long, showcasing a blind six-bay arcade of pointed arches with three chamfered orders and a continuous hood mould, although the piers are missing. The rear wall includes framing for three doors. This structure may have been designed by Thomas Rickman and is included for its group value.
