Description
The steps and flanking statuary, located approximately 20 metres northwest of Ditchley House, were designed around 1935 by Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe for Ronald and Nancy Tree. Constructed from limestone ashlar, the feature includes a broad flight of three steps that connects the garden front of Ditchley House to the grass terrace created by Jellicoe. On either side of the steps, there are large statues of recumbent lions positioned on ashlar pedestals. These lions are believed to have been imported from Italy. Ditchley Park is also recognized in the English Heritage Historic Gardens Register at Grade II*.
