SPELSBURY DITCHLEY PARK SP32SE, SP3821-3921 8/168, 18/168 Steps and flanking statuary approx. 20m NW of Ditchley House

GV II

Terrace steps and statuary. Circa 1935 by Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe for Ronald and Nancy Tree. Limestone ashlar. A broad flight of 3 steps, leading from the garden front of Ditchley House (q.v.) to the grass terrace created by Jellicoe, is' flanked by large statues of recumbent lions on ashlar pedestals. The lions are said to have been brought from Italy. (Ditchley Park is included in the English Heritage Historic Gardens Register at Grade II*)
