Description

Chequers Inn is a house that later became an inn, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof, forming an L-shape. The building has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, along with a two-storey rear wing. There is an external stone lateral stack at the rear with offsets and a 20th-century brick top, as well as an external stone end stack at the front of the right-hand cross-wing, also with a 20th-century brick top, and an internal stone end stack at the rear.

On the first floor, there is a four-light wooden casement window, while the ground floor has a 20th-century three-light wooden casement window to the left and a 20th-century two-light window to the right, which was likely a former doorway, indicated by straight joints beneath. The left-hand gable end features 20th-century two-light wooden casements on the first floor and in the attic, along with a 20th-century three-light wooden casement on the ground floor, all with wooden lintels. Additionally, there is a 20th-century half-glazed two-light wooden casement in the front gable end and two-light wooden casements on the side.

Inside, the right-hand ground-floor room has a deep-chamfered ceiling beam with a stepped stop, while the left-hand ground-floor room contains a pair of chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops and an open fireplace at the rear with a chamfered wooden lintel.
