Description

Gate House is a toll house built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble with ashlar quoins and features timber lintels. The roof is hipped and covered with stone slates, and there is a brick chimney located in the valley of the roof. The building has a two-span plan with a projecting canted wing on the left side. It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range that includes large-paned sashes with vertical glazing bars. The entrance is located on the right side, and there is a lean-to extension at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. The road on which it stands was turnpiked between 1798 and 1800 and was disturnpiked in 1877.
