Description
Woodleys is a house dating from approximately 1770 to 1780, originally built for Thomas Southam. Around 1818, Thomas Thornhill added flanking polygonal wings. Further additions were made in the 19th century to the left side and rear. The house is constructed of limestone ashlar with a hipped Welsh slate roof and stone end stacks. It has a double-depth plan and is in a late Georgian style.
The main block is three storeys high and features a symmetrical five-window facade, accentuated by raised storey bands. A semi-circular arch tops the 20th-century front door. The windows are six-pane sashes, set within flat stone arches. The polygonal wings were fitted with sashes around 1819. Mid-19th century additions exist at the rear, and an extension was built to the left side in 1887. The interior is not accessible for inspection, but it is noted to contain an early 19th-century staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade.
