Description

Crinan House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of rough ashlar with coursed squared rubble heightening on the right side, and features timber lintels and a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a five-window range. To the left of the centre, there is a half-glazed door in the right part, which is topped by an open pediment supported by Doric columns. The house has large-paned sash windows with horns throughout, and the first-floor windows on the left part are set under moulded timber lintels. The left side has a large flush-fronted gable, and a change in walling material above the first-floor windows on the right suggests a later heightening, possibly replacing similar gables. There are two hipped dormers with casements that have glazing bars. An insurance plaque and iron ties are visible on the first floor, and there are two ridge chimneys at the ends of the right part. Inside, the ground floor features stop-chamfered ceiling beams, along with doors and window shutters that have raised and fielded panels. To the right, there is a mid-19th century two-storey surgery extension. The property is enclosed by iron railings with fleur de lys heads on rendered dwarf walls, which have two gates flanking the entrance to the house.
