Description

Doggetts is an 18th-century farmhouse that was later divided into three cottages and is now a single house. It is located on the west side of Thames Street, Charlbury. The construction consists of coursed squared rubble with timber lintels, and the roof is covered with stone-slate, with some areas replaced by concrete tiles to the rear. The house has two storeys with an attic at the right end and features a three-window facade of large-pane sash windows with horns. A part-glazed door is situated to the left of the centre, and a blocked doorway with a bullseye window is found at the right end. Surviving lintels on the ground and first floors at the right end suggest earlier windows, and the texture of the stonework implies a former wider window, possibly a workshop window, in the centre bay at the first floor level. The interior includes a fireplace with a wooden bressumer at the right end. Variations in floor levels suggest that this part of the house may be older than the rest of the structure.
