Description
The Old Post House and Ladies' Hairdresser is a house that now serves as both a residence and a hairdressing business. It dates from the early 18th century and has undergone later alterations and an extension on the right side. The building is constructed from coursed square rubble and features a stone slate roof.
The main section has two storeys, a cellar, and an attic. A central half-glazed door is framed by a moulded doorcase. The ground floor has sash windows with glazing bars set beneath cambered arches, while the first floor features sash windows with wooden lintels. There is a central painted date stone, although the date is not legible, which includes an oval tablet with recessed spandrels, resembling a similar feature at Heathfield in Brown's Lane. A hipped dormer on the roof has horizontal sliding sashes.
At either end of the building, there are chimneys, with the left one being a ridge stack finished in rendered brick. The extension to the right includes a half-glazed door, a recessed shop front, one first-floor sash window with glazing bars, and a smaller blocked window with a timber lintel.
