Description
Hookerswell Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with an extension added in the late 18th century. It is built from limestone rubble, featuring limestone and marlstone ashlar dressings, and has a Stonesfield-slate roof with ashlar stacks. The building has a two-unit plan that has been extended to a double-depth plan with a rear wing and stands three storeys tall.
The front of the farmhouse is symmetrical with two windows and is characterized by chamfered rusticated quoins and flat arches that have projecting keyblocks. A central four-panel door is set within an added gabled ashlar porch. The outer bays feature wide six-pane sash windows, while smaller four-pane sashes are located under the eaves. The gables have parapets, and the original gable stack on the left side has a plinth and dentil entablature. The left gable wall includes a leaded casement with a wooden lintel. An added parallel range and its extension to the right have segmental-arched leaded casements and gable parapets at the rear, complete with projecting kneelers. The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse was described as "new" shortly after 1778.
