Description

Island House is a former mill house dating from the early to mid-19th century. The east block is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with raised quoins and offset courses at the eaves, while the west block is made of rubble that may have been intended to be plastered over. The building features a Cotswold stone roof that is hipped to the east and has a basic 'L' plan. It stands two storeys tall with an attic. The south front has three gabled dormers and windows arranged in a 3:1 pattern; the right-hand window is framed in a raised flat cockbeaded architrave with a keystone, while the left-hand window is mid-19th century with segmental heads. There is a wide segmental archway to the right of centre, which now functions as a door and window. The east return has one bay with a gabled dormer, and the right-hand part serves as a screen wall. A rear wing is also present.
