Description
The Punchbowl Inn is a public house that was originally a house, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of squared and coursed limestone, with a colourwashed front and a gabled stone slate roof, although the rear has 20th-century tiles. The building has an L-plan layout with a rear left wing and stands two storeys tall with an attic, featuring a two-window range.
The entrance has a flat stone arch and is sheltered by a flat hood supported by scrolled wrought-iron brackets, leading to a central door from the 20th century. There are early 19th-century canted bay windows with glazing-bar sashes and moulded cornices. The first floor has flat stone arches above early 19th-century tripartite sash windows, and there are gabled roof dormers.
At the rear, there are 18th-century two-storey ranges, one of which has a hipped roof and a tripartite sash window. The mid-18th-century rear left wing is built of limestone rubble and has a gabled stone slate roof; it features a three-window range with segmental arches over two first-floor mid-18th-century six-pane sashes with thick glazing bars. Additionally, there is a later 18th-century two-storey range with a concrete tile roof and 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars. The interior of the first floor has not been inspected.
