Description
No. 16 Oxford Street is a house, now functioning as a house and tea shop. It dates from the 17th century, with early 19th century alterations and was refronted in the 1950s. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with an ashlar front and features a gabled stone slate roof, while the rear roofs have concrete tiles. There is a stone stack on the right end. The house has an L-plan that has been extended to a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical three-window range. A 20th century door is set within an open-pedimented architrave, and there are 20th century shop windows. The building has a raised storey band and keyed flat stone arches over horned six-pane sashes. The early 19th century rear right wing includes tripartite and six-pane sashes, while the left wing is 17th century but was remodelled in the 19th century with a hipped roof. Inside, there are stop-chamfered beams throughout, although the roof was not inspected. The building is included for its group value.
