Description

This property comprises three buildings, numbers 18, 18A, and 20, on Oxford Street in Woodstock. Number 20 dates from the mid-18th century, while number 18 is from the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The frontages are constructed of limestone ashlar, with gabled roofs; the roof to number 20 is covered in Welsh slates, and the roof of number 18 in concrete tiles. Brick end stacks are also present.

Number 20, on the left-hand side, is a two-unit building with a two-window range. It features a wood pelmet board over a late 19th-century four-panelled door leading to a passage on the left, and a late 19th-century half-glazed door. There are late 19th-century square bay windows with plate-glass windows to the ground floor, and canted first-floor bay windows with plate-glass sashes. Late 19th-century gabled roof dormers are present, with pilasters and moulded tympana.

Number 18 is a symmetrical three-window building. Wrought-iron brackets support a flat hood over a late 19th-century panelled half-glazed door in the centre, and a late 19th-century four-panelled door is placed to the right. Late 19th-century square bays with plate-glass windows are also present. Stone lintels are above horned six-pane sashes on the first floor.

At the rear is an older wing, remodelled and with eaves raised in the 19th century. This includes two eight-pane sashes. A stair turret is located at the rear of number 18. The interior of number 20 contains cased beams. The first floor of number 18 was not inspected. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
