Description

This is an early 18th-century house, later divided into two shops at numbers 17 and 19 Oxford Street, Woodstock. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, colourwashed on the left side, with a stone slate roof and brick end stacks. It has a three-unit plan and two storeys with an attic, featuring a three-window front.

Number 19, on the right, has a timber lintel with wrought-iron brackets supporting a flat hood over a 20th-century central door. It also contains mid-19th century canted bay windows. Number 17, on the left, has an early 19th-century six-panelled door (four panels glazed) with an overlight, alongside a 20th-century shop window with glazing bars. The first floor of number 17 features timber lintels over early 19th-century eight-pane sash windows. Two gabled roof dormers are present on the right side, and a hipped dormer to the left. The left gable end contains a flat stone arch over an early 19th-century ten-pane sash window. A two-storey rear left wing, built of similar materials, has early 19th-century eight-pane sashes.

The interior of number 17 includes chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a quarter-turn staircase leading to the attic. The interior of number 19 was not inspected but is likely to be of interest.
