Description

The Old Malt House is an early 18th-century house located on Fox Lane, Westcot Barton. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels, and has marlstone gable parapets. The roof is covered with Stonesfield slate and concrete plain tiles, featuring brick gable stacks. The building follows a three-unit lobby-entry plan.

The front of the house, which faces away from the road, is divided into three bays. The two bays to the right are taller, containing a central gabled stair tower and a main entrance aligned with the left-hand stack. This section features windows with two-light casements. A lower bay to the left provides a second entrance and windows with two- and three-light casements. An upper stair window retains some leaded glazing. The rear elevation has three-light casements in the higher bays and two-light casements in the lower. All windows have chamfered lintels. The roof includes two gabled roof dormers at the rear, and stacks on each of the three gables, with parapets incorporating projecting kneelers.

Inside, the house features stop-chamfered beams, a large bread oven, and a winder stair leading to the attic.
