Description

Old Mill Cottage is a house dated 1722, as indicated by a datestone, though it may partly date back to the 17th century. The building was enlarged in the 20th century and is constructed from limestone rubble with wooden lintels, topped by a concrete plain-tile roof featuring rubble and brick stacks. Originally designed with a 2-unit plan, it has been expanded to 3 units and further extended. The house stands two storeys plus an attic and has a three-window front. The main range includes three-light casements on the left and center, and to the right, there is a two-light casement above a combined doorway and window. A 20th-century stone porch is located to the left of center, serving as the main entrance. The datestone inscribed B/WE/1722 may refer to the added left bay, while the right corner of the front is splayed. The roof features two gabled dormers, a brick stack in the left gable, and a large rubble stack to the right of center. A 20th-century range is set back to the right. The initials on the datestone likely refer to William and Elizabeth Bath.
