Description
Nos. 17 and 19 on Bridge Street are a house and shop dating from the mid-17th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof, with concrete tiles on the rear. It has a two-unit plan and a through-passage to the right. The structure is two storeys tall with an attic and has a four-window range. There is a late 19th-century outshut with a Welsh slate roof, a 20th-century window, and a late 19th-century half-glazed door. The left side has timber lintels over late 19th-century sash windows, while the first floor features three-light casements with glazing bars and two gabled roof dormers.
No. 19, which is to the right, is an early 18th-century addition that projects into the street. It is also made of coursed limestone rubble and has a hipped concrete tile roof. This part of the building is two storeys high with a one-window range. It has a late 19th-century half-glazed door flanked by canted bay windows with 19th-century glazing-bar lights. Above, there is a timber lintel over late 19th-century three-light casements. The through-passage of No. 17 has a 18th-century plank door with strap hinges. There is a late 19th-century outshut at the rear of No. 19.
At the back of No. 17, there is a mid to late 17th-century range made of limestone rubble, also with a gabled stone slate roof. This section is two storeys tall and features a plank loft door leading to a former store. Inside No. 17, there is an early 18th-century two-panelled door with a large Norfolk latch leading from the through-passage, and it has an ovolo-moulded beam to the left along with stop-chamfered beams. The first floor was not inspected. No. 19 has a chamfered beam and timber-framed partition walls to the left.
