Description

This is a pair of houses, originally a single house, located on Bridge Street, Witney. The core of the building dates to the early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The exterior is constructed of squared and coursed limestone, with an ashlar plinth. It features a gabled stone slate roof, a left-hand stack of rendered stone finished in brick, and rear lateral stacks of brick and stone, also finished in brick. The building has a 5-unit plan and two storeys with an attic, presenting a seven-window facade. A timber lintel sits above a 19th-century plank double door leading to a central carriage entry. A 20th-century door is positioned to the right, and the windows are late 19th and 20th-century three-light casements. There are three gabled dormers in the roof. The rear of the building originally featured a rendered, timber-framed stair turret and a mid-19th century service range to the left. Inside, there are cased beams and a quarter-turn staircase to the rear. A mid-18th century fireplace is found on the first floor to the left, and the roof is supported by collar trusses with butt purlins.
