Description

The building is a former County Hall and Law Courts, now a Social Security Office, dating from 1848. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with stone ashlar stacks and a flat roof that is not visible. The design is in a Baroque style. The main facade is one storey and comprises a four-window range. A projecting and rusticated central bay provides the main entrance, which features a keyed and cavetto-moulded semi-circular arched architrave above a six-panelled door. The windows have margin-lights and are set in semi-circular-arched surrounds with blocked architraves; a moulded band runs at impost level. A bracketed cornice sits below a parapet, which is topped by Royal Arms. Smaller windows are located beneath the eaves to the rear, indicating the presence of former law courts. The interior has not been inspected.
