Description
No. 30 on Bridge Street is a house that is now part of the Staple Hall nursing home. It dates from the late 18th century but has earlier origins. The building is made of squared and coursed limestone, with coursed rubble on the earlier wall to the right. It features a hipped stone slate roof and has brick stacks inside. The house has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high with a two-window range. There are timber lintels above a 20th-century door and six-pane sash windows. The right side wall has similar sash windows and a late 19th-century ashlar bay window that is two storeys high with a tripartite sash. The rear also has similar sash windows. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a 20th-century lintel on the left and a wine cellar from the 18th century on the right.
