Description

NORTH LEIGH WILCOTE ROAD SP31SE (East side) 9/192 Stables approx. 50m. S of Holly Court Farmhouse GV II Stables. Early C17 with C19 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble, with C19 brick to left gable, gabled asbestos sheet roof. 2 storeys. Timber lintel over doorway; chamfered timber lintel over late C19 ventilator to right. Stone steps rise to left door in right gable. Interior: C17 chamfered roll-stopped beams. Early C19 three-bay stalls, each with manger and feeding rack; harness pegs and chaff box to left. Early C19 collar-truss roof. The C17 stables were evidently converted into a mill (probably for fulling cloth) in the early C19: the left gable adjoins a stream. Included for group value.
