Description

Bridewell Farmhouse is a 18th-century farmhouse, dated 1761 by a stone above the door. The front is rendered over limestone rubble, with ashlar quoins and dressings. The roof is gabled and covered in Welsh slate, with brick end stacks. The farmhouse has a double-depth plan with outshuts to either side. It is built in a mid-Georgian style, with three storeys and a symmetrical three-window front. The front door is a six-panelled door (two glazed) set within a moulded wood architrave, topped with a late 19th-century gabled hood. Windows are 20th-century sashes set in eared architraves with triple keyblocks. The flanking outshuts each have a lunette and a string course above an eight-pane sash in a similar eared architrave. Inside, there are panelled doors and a central dog-leg staircase with slender turned balusters. The house was built after enclosure by Bridewell Hospital, which owned the land.
