Description

Sturt House and Sturt House Cottage comprise two houses with possible medieval origins. Sturt House itself is largely of the mid-18th century, with an extension added around 1880. Constructed of coursed limestone rubble, it features a gabled stone slate roof and a left-end stack finished in brick. The main house has a three-window range over two storeys and an attic, with a flat stone hood over the central 20th-century door. Windows are predominantly 20th-century sashes with timber and stone lintels, and a round window sits above the door. Gabled roof dormers light the attic space. A roughly contemporary extension, incorporating brick dressings to the rear, appears to the rear and to the right bay.

Sturt House Cottage is situated to the left and is primarily of late 18th and early 19th century date, being a one-storey and attic range constructed from similar materials.

A unique feature is the ancient cellar beneath Sturt House Cottage, purportedly dating back to the 14th century. This cellar, accessible from within Sturt House, is formed from coursed limestone, creating a pointed-arched vault.
