Description

Danum Cottage is a pair of cottages, likely dating from the 17th century, and altered subsequently. The construction is of coursed rubble, with a Cotswold stone roof and a chimney positioned off-centre to the right. The cottages were originally designed with a central alleyway plan. They are single-storied with an attic, though they were previously two storeys high. There are two windows, featuring 20th-century casements beneath timber lintels and large, gabled half-dormers positioned above what were formerly first-floor windows, now blocked. A central, depressed, chamfered Tudor arch doorway provides access to a common alleyway, serving both cottages, and has a 20th-century panelled door. The cottage was previously known as Purwell Cottage and was formerly listed as two adjoining cottages called Donnington House on the south.
