Description
Cleeve Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with a likely early 17th-century two-bay addition on the right side. The building features large timber-framing with rendered infill, including arched braces at the center of the first floor. The right side has small timber-framing with painted brick and rendered infill. The roof is hipped and thatched, with a brick ridge stack located at the center. The original layout was probably that of a hall house.
The cottage is two stories high and has a five-bay, four-window range. There is a 20th-century stable door to the left of the center, and the windows are irregularly placed casements with leaded lights, except for a 17th-century wood oriel window located at the center of the first floor. To the left is a 18th-century cross-wing, which has timber-framing with painted infill and an old plain-tile roof, along with a brick ridge stack. This cross-wing is a single story with an attic and consists of a single-bay range.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. Additionally, there is an attached 18th-century cob wall at the rear right, which forms a boundary to the garden. This wall is approximately 55 meters long and 2 meters high, featuring thatch coping.
