Description

SUTTON COURTENAY CHURCH STREET SU5094 (West side) 7/101 The Norman Hall 06/08/52 (Formerly listed as No.9 (The Norman Hall)) GV I

Manor house, now house. Late C12 with later alterations, probably early C20 wing to rear. Uncoursed stone rubble with ashlar stone dressings; old plain-tile roof: brick stacks to rear. 2-storey, 4-bay range at right-angles to street. Round-arched doorway to left of centre with one order of shafts, roll mouldings, and nailhead and dogtooth details. Wood studded door. Irregular fenestration, mostly of C19 casements except lancet window to first floor right; blocked lancet to first floor right of centre. Right return, street: C20 six-light stone mullion window to ground floor. C19 three-light stone mullion window to ground floor. C19 three-light stone mullion window with cusped heads to first floor. Interior not inspected but noted as having arch-braced collar truss roof with 2 tiers of wind braces. Probably early C20 wing to rear, fronting the street.
