Description
Chestnut Cottage and The Cottage are two houses situated in East Hendred. The house on the left was originally built in the 16th century and has an 18th-century front. The house on the right dates to the 17th century. The house on the left is constructed of painted brick, while the house on the right appears to be roughcast on a timber frame. Both houses have a thatched, half-hipped roof, with brick ridge stacks located centrally and to the right of centre. The properties are single-storey with an attic, and they present a four-window front. A 20th-century panelled door is situated in the centre of the front, and a plank door is located to the right of centre. The house on the right has 2-light casement windows with leaded lights. The house on the left has 3-light casement windows with segmental brick heads and leaded lights. Four swept dormers are visible in the roof. The interior of the house on the right features open fireplaces on the ground floor and a queenpost roof. The interior of the house on the left was not inspected, but it is noted to have cruck construction.
