Description

Hines Cottage is a house dating back to the 17th century, with significant alterations in the 18th century and 20th centuries. The lower part of the walls are constructed from roughly shaped stone, while the upper part is of red brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with flared brick headers. The roof is thatched, with a hipped section on the left and a half-hipped section on the right, and has a brick chimney stack on the right side. The house is two storeys high and has a two-window front. A doorway is blocked in the centre, with a single-light window to its left. A two-light wooden window with a segmental brick arch is on the right. There are two two-light casements on the first floor, each also with segmental brick arches. A 20th-century door is located at the rear of the property. A likely 19th-century lean-to addition adjoins the left return, and a 20th-century addition is located on the right. The interior was not inspected. The building holds group value as an example of a vernacular cottage.
