Description
The summerhouse at the north end of the lake in Faringdon Park was built around 1840 and is designed in a picturesque style. It is a single-storey structure made of timber framing and red brick, topped with a fish-scale tiled roof and adorned with iron ornamental cresting. The gable facing the lake extends outward as a porch supported by twisted wood columns. The building features ornamental barge-boards and a finial.
The entrance door is framed in reeded wood and includes grotesque heads at the corners and as a keystone, with a carved panel above. On either side of the door, there are two-light Gothic windows, each with carved heads at the corners. The north side has a brick base with a balcony that projects over a cascade, featuring turned balusters. There is a half-glazed door on this side, similar in style to the south door. The roof extends over the balcony, supported by timber arched braces, and includes ornamental barge-boards.
