Description
Wood Lodge is a summerhouse built in the 19th century, designed in a picturesque cottage-ornee style. It is constructed of stucco scribed to resemble ashlar, topped with a stone tile roof. The building has a single storey and an attic, featuring three bays. A prominent feature is the large central semi-circular bow, which is covered by a conical roof with wide bracketed eaves. This bow includes French windows with full-height side lights, showcasing fine ornamental leading and stained glass. On each side of the bow, there are 12-pane sash windows set back.
The door is located in the left return, framed by a chamfered segmental-headed stone surround, and consists of a six-panelled door with a transom light above. The rear elevation has a projecting gable with decorative pierced bargeboards that are supported on tree trunks. Additionally, there are two two-light stone mullion and transom windows on the ground floor. Inside, the summerhouse features co-eval interior elements, including two fireplaces with reeded stone surrounds.
