Description
Church Lodge is an early 19th-century lodge built from ashlar stone. It features a low pitched slate roof with wide eaves, an oblong ashlar stack, and a tall polygonal stack with a cap. The building is single storey and consists of three bays. A notable feature is the central single storey canted bay, which has angle pilasters and pilasters on the walls, each topped with a moulded patera. The central door opening has a recessed panel on each side and a segmental headed recess above the door, which contains a half-glazed door. On either side of the door are sash windows set in similar surrounds. The lodge was positioned near the former manor house of the Champneys family, which was demolished in 1856 when the current house at Orchardlea was constructed.
